Utilization of Recycled Material for Producing Magnesia–Carbon Refractories

The partial replacement of primary raw materials for the production refractories with recycled ones gains in importance, as it contributes to conservation natural resources, energy saving, and reduction greenhouse gas emissions. In this work, use a magnesia–carbon (MgO-C) recyclate fractions 3–6, 1–3, 0–1 mm material MgO-C was investigated. examined via optical scanning electron microscopy. Using mixtures different contents up 82 wt%, specimens were prepared study influence on their chemical composition, structure, properties. substitution did not cause decrease MgO content analyzed after carbon burnout, but individual impurities changed. A comparison that contains wt% recyclate-free through computed tomography indicated change size distribution grains. porosity increased, cold modulus rupture decreased increasing content, whereas thermal shock resistance improved. At 40 refractoriness under load only slightly lower than material.
